The Toothless Dragon

There once was a dragon who hadn't a tooth

Yet he roared and ramped and raged , forsooth .

But though he bellowed all day and all night ,

It never could bring him a morsel to bite .

He put on his hat and he roared into town .

" I must have some dinner before I calm down !

I've drunk all the rivers dry , lapped up the rain ,

But more I must have for my strength to regain !"

Now , old Mr Poppinjay waited a minute ,

Then into his shop he darted , just like a linnet ,

And handed the dragon a wonderous selection

Of tinned soups and fruit juices ,

Made to perfection .

"AH HA!" roared the dragon , adjusting his hat

"AH HA Mr Poppinjay , just think of that !

I'll send you an order ....... Hmmmmm !

ninety-nine dozen

Should do me for tea ... which I'll have with my cousin !"

The dragon roared off to his cave in the hill ,

And left Mr Poppinjay quivering still .

"Oh ! Ninety-nine dozen !" he gasped

"I've got four ! "

He shut his eyes tightly and swooned on the floor .
