We ran the "under the sea" theme over a period of 4 weeks and during this time turned our hall into an under sea scene using each craft time to make additional objects to enhance our display , The end result was fantastic and the joey scouts were very proud of their efforts ,
Unfortunately none of the pictures we took turned out so you will have to make your own to find out how good it looked

Giant
Octopusmaterials ....... sheet (head) rope
felt black and white (eyes)
felt red (mouth)
thick stockings (legs) 5 pair ...one counts as a spare
stuffing and glue gun
Most of the gear you will need can be found at the local 'op' shop (2nd hand clothing etc 'opportunity shop') The sheet if possible should be coloured appropriate to an octopus but not necessary . The Stuffing for the head should be as light as possible . Lay the sheet on the floor and pile stuffing into the middle of it , gather up the corners and tie a rope around to secure a head shape.
Cut the legs off the pantihose , these should be as thick as possible colours are not an issue (we had red , blue , maroon and tan which was all that was available) and stuff quite firmly attach the legs to the head ( if you like you can glue plastic milk caps to legs for suckers .
Cut 2 large oval shapes from the white felt and 2 smaller from black for the inner eyes , glue onto head, cut mouth shape from red felt and glue into position . Voila !!!! One giant octopus .... hang from ceiling if possible or sit somewhere prominent in the hall .
Masses
of sea weedMaterials ....... Crepe paper in various shades of green
Cut the crepe paper into long strips, we did curvy cuts to make it look more like sea weed , make lots and lots and lots !!! The sea weed was actually made by leaders and hung all over the hall prior to the next Mob meeting as a surprise .
Fish ,
Starfish and Sea HorsesMaterials ....... Corrugated cardboard ( coloured if possible , or paint in various colours) . Make stencils of fish , star fish and sea horses both large and small , trace the shapes onto the card and have the Joey Scouts cut them out , place a hole through the top and attach a piece of string (various lengths , for effect) hang these between the sea weed strips and blue tack some to the walls .
One thing that surprised us was that not only did the Joey Scouts love their display , so did all the other sections and everyone from Joey to Venturer took great care of it .
Giant
Sea muralsMount the butchers paper on the wall it will be displayed on and start creating a Mob masterpiece . Have the Joey Scouts create a long sea mural , offer ideas through showing or suggesting a few different paper techniques .
Beach
MobileMaterials ..... Take a walk along the beach and collect interesting bits and pieces like shells and driftwood ..... A larger piece of drift wood or branch for each Joey to hang their odds and sods from .... some string ( rough looking is best).
Attach a length of string to each treasure and hang from branch , vary the lengths , until satisfied with the result . Attach another piece of string in the middle of your branch to suspend from something when you get home .
and we
made bubbles !Materials ...... pipe cleaners and straws for bubble blowers , containers with lids to take bubble brew home in . Detergent and glycerine ( makes bubbles last longer)
Bubble Mixture..... Blend together
100ml dish washing liquid
250ml water
25ml glycerin
Make different shaped blowers ie heart , diamond , square , circular , try threading pipe cleaners through drinking straws to attain a desired shape
