Southern Regional Outback Games day
Tractor Tyre Relay
Equipment ......large inner tubes
, sticks approximately 60cm (30") , witches hats or
similar
Joeys in teams must roll their tractor tube to a marker
,
then place the tyre around them and run back to their team ,
they must do a wriggle as they step out of the tyre to pass to the
next team member .
There are several ways to propell the tubes , with stick on top of
tube or through the middle and
if this is too difficult Joeys may use their hands
Broomstick
Javelin
Equipment .... brooms, line
marker , measuring tape optional
Joey Scouts to toss the broomsticks the way they would
a real javelin ,
for added fun use straw brooms
Gumboot throwing
Equipment ........ gumboots(
these are wellingtons, galoshes)
How far can you toss a gumboot ?
Cow Pat
Discus
Equipment ......papier mache cow
pat facimilies
Joey's stand behind a line , the discus throw is made
with cow pat on the flat of the hand ,
not held between fingers and thumb
Kangaroo
Race
(Sack race)
Equipment .... sacks
Joey Scouts step into a sack and hold this around their
waist ,
on a signal they kangaroo hop in their sacks to a finish line
Lemon Lob
(Shotput)
Equipment ...... lemons ,
measuring tape
Joey scouts stand behind a line and try to propell
their lemon as far as possible in a specified direction ,
the lemon should be pushed from the shoulder rather than thrown
Hay Stack Hurdles
Equipment ......... Haystack

A series of haystacks spaced along a course , Joeys
form teams ,
and in turn jump the course , continue as long as wanted.
The number of teams is dependant on how many lanes of hurdles you
have set up .
Broom Stick
Cricket
Equipment ..... straw broom ,
large light ball
1 Bowler , 1 Batter , the rest fielding .
When batter hits the ball , they must run from one
point to another ,
avoiding the ball being caught on the fullor reaching home before the
batter .
Rotate bowlers frequently .
Joey's do not win the chance to bat by getting the other batter out
,
rather they have a number and take turns at the bat .
Tug of war
Equipment ...... long rope
No oars No boat Rowing
Equipment ......... broom sticks
or similar
Number of Joeys in teams depends on size of stick , try
for 3 , two oarsmen and one coxswain ,
the team board their boats straddling the stick one Joey facing the
other team members .
The rowers set off on a course steered by their coxswain (the only
one facing the course ),
and have to navigate their boats around obstacles to a finishing
place .
Swimming
Equipment .......
Balloon
In teams , half of each team at one end of the course
and half at the other .
Each Joey scout beginns the race with a balloon held between the
knees ,
using their arms in a breast stroke action
they shuffle/run to their team mates standing opposite .

Equipment

Joeys run races holding an innertube around their waist
Build a
haystack
Equipment
.........boxes
Each team of Joey Scouts has a pile of boxes ,
one at a time they pick up a box run to a given spot and place their
box down
before running back to tag the next team mate ,
in turn the Joey Souts run up with their boxes to create a haystack
.
Gumboot dash
Equipment ......... adult sized
gumboots
Joeys to put on a pair of adult gumboots and try to run
to the opposite team mate ,
here they take off the gumboots and pass them to the next runner etc
Gymnastics
Equipment ........ rope ,
hoops
Lay out the rope in a long straight line , this is the
balancing beam ,
Joeys try to walk along the rope without stepping off Hoops ,
Joeys to rotate hoops around different parts of their body ie: arm ,
leg , waist, neck
BasketBall
Equipment ....... Ball , washing
baskets
Joey Scouts in turn try to throw their ball into a
basket .
Sheep Dog Trials
Equipment ............. Joey
Scouts
One Joey Scout is sheepdog, and the remainder are
sheep.
They stand in line, each holding the waist of the one in front.
First Joey holds arms out sideways. The sheep dog faces the line.
The aim is for the sheep dog to tag the last in the line.
The line of sheep must move quickly to prevent this without letting
go.
The leading sheep is not to tag the sheep dog.

Witchety grub
Relay
Equipment ....... Nil
Form teams at least 5 members to a team , course is
about 10 metres long
and teams are positioned about 4 metres apart .
Each team sits on the ground one behind the other , knees bent and
feet flat on the ground ,
and while holding the ankles of the Joey Scout behind them ,
the team moves like a grub to the finish line .
To move , each member of the team shifts their weight
from their feet to their seat
while keeping hold of the ankles of the person behind .
Each team must cross all members over the line to finish .
