"COMMUNICATION"

Opening Parade ........

Activity ..... "HOW DOES THAT WORK"
equipment ... old Televisions, telephones, radios, computers, CB radios etc, screw drivers, electrical tape ( to cover cut appliance cords), wire cutters etc

After explaining that "this is not something you can do with any appliance and we are only pulling these ones apart because they don't work any more." Also pointing out that the cords and plugs have been cut off for safety reasons. Joey Scouts, parents and leaders can go to town pulling each item apart to see what is inside. The Joey's are absolutely fascinated by the insides o appliances and love this activity, consequently it can take up quite a lot of time.

Game ............. "MESSAGE RELAY"

Write a message on a piece of paper and wind the message around a stick then tie it off so that no one can read it. Have the Joey Scouts form a line with the head of the line standing about 2-3 metres in front of the others. Whisper the message to the Joey Scout and hand them the message stick. They must run around a set course ( this could be an obstacle course if you like) and back to the line of scouts. The next Joey scout in line has moved up to the start position of the first approximately 2-3 metres in front of the others ( so the message cannot be over heard), the Joey with the message stick passes the stick to the next player and whispers the message they were told, the new message courier then travels the same course and repeats passing the message on until everyone has had a turn. At the end of the game have the last Joey Scout say the whispered message out loud and then ceremoniously unwrap the original message from the message stick and read out loud to compare the difference.

Activity ........ "TALK ON WALKIE TALKIES OR CB RADIOS"
Prior to the meeting ask your parents and fellow leaders if anyone has walkie talkies or a CB radio in their vehicle or if they know of anyone who would be able to come along to the Mob meeting and allow they Joey Scouts to have a chat to each other. It is surprising how many CB's are in cars!!

Allow plenty of time for each Joey Scout to have a yaffle on the walkie talkies and CB's as some of them can become quite shy and tongue tied.

Closing Parade ....
