Activities

What better way to learn than to compare yourself to a Roo or a Wobbley ( ooops Wallaby)

Before your Mob meet starts take the time to set up these activites in the hall , We had a ball participating in these activites , the Joey Scouts were amazed to see just how far a big Red Roo can jump amongst other things .

You will need chalk , bathroom scales , a measuring tape and make sure you do a few stretching exercises to warm up before attempting the leaps

**Measure on a wall or door frame different heights of Roos and Wallabies marking next to each measurement which species.

**Measure leap lengths of a variety of Macropods.

**Compare the weights of Joey Scouts and Leaders to various Macropods , How many Joey Scouts combined weights equal a Red Roo Boomer or Blue Flier .

Have a talk about Roos prior to undertaking the activities . We covered most of what I have written in the Roo information page . Before the meet I had written all the information down and collected pictures of different kangaroos to show the Joey Scouts , I was surprised to have been able to retain their attention for so long , obviously they have a hunger for knowledge it just needs to be presented to them in a way they find stimulating . You may find , as I did , that you will start to tell your Joey Mob about Kangaroos and they will begin to ask questions , so rather than just reading the information pat to them , you will be translating facts and figures in an interactive way . Your Joey Scouts will retain much more , and their thirst for knowledge will grow . We cover many subjects in this way and I am happy to say that often the Joey Scouts themsleves will ask if they can learn about a certain subject in the weeks to come .... I do a lot of program reshuffling !!
