Hoppy was a very naughty little Joey Kangaroo . He was always playing tricks on his mum and his brothers and sisters . He would sneak up and scare them . he would scratch dust on them when they weren't looking abd he was always tripping his little sister . His mother loved him very much but she used to get so cranky when he misbehaved .
One day , after his Mum had told him to stay with the Mob , Hoppy sneaked up to the top of the hill over their valley and , when all the Mob were quietly eating grass , he shouted in his loudest voice " THE HUNTER , THE HUNTER , THE HUNTER IS COMING !!!!!"
Now , when the Mob heard his cry , they all ran to hide and there was a terrible panic . All of the big Kangaroos jumped up the hill to help little Hoppy , but when they got there , he was laughing and rolling around , saying " I fooled you, I fooled you Ha Ha Ha Ha ."
The big Kangaroos were quite mad as they went down to round up the Mob ; and Hoppy was roused on by his Mum for telling such a lie .
Hoppy didn't learn . The next day he did the same thing again and the same result happened . Oh boy , weren't the big Kangaroos cranky !!! and again he was very severely roused on by his Mother .
A few days later , Hoppy was resting under a tree , being good for a change , when suddenly from out of the desert land came a tribe of Aboriginal hunters .
Hoppy leapt up and ran to the edge of the valley. "THE HUNTERS , THE HUNTERS !" he cried . To Hoppy's surprise , no-one in the Mob moved . They continued to graze and rest under the trees . 'THE HUNTERS ARE HERE !" cried Hoppy , but no-one believed him . The hunters came to the top of the hill and threw a net over Hoppy and took him to their camp . Now Hoppy knew he was in big trouble and was likely to be eaten up . Just as he was about to give up hope . Boomer , the Mob guard , leapt into the camp and kicked the cooking fire . The sparks and flames went onto the hunters and while they were all mixed up , Boomer grabbed Hoppy and they escaped into the bush .
Later , when Hoppy was with his family , he realised that all his trouble was caused by the lie that he told when he first tricked the Mob about the hunters . When the hunters did come , nobody believed him .
Hoppy promised NEVER to tell a lie again .
