Joey Scouts run around the hall , on a given signal all lay face down on the floor , with eyes closed or hands over eyes . One Joey Scout is covered completly with a blanket , leader signals other Joey Scouts to jump up and guess who is missing .

note : this game challenges a Joey Scouts powers of observation and encourages honesty and honour .

equipment : kangaroo/wallaby pictures cut from light weight paper , cardboard flappers .

Divide Joey Scouts into 4 teams .Each team has 1x kangaroo cutout ( a different colour for each team) and a cardboard flapper for every Joey Scout . One team is positioned in each corner of the hall . On a signal the Joey Scouts need to fan their Kangaroo into the centre of the hall with their flapper.

note : this game quickly teaches Joey Scouts the need for cooperation and communication Without these key elements their Kangaroo will either go nowhere or nowhere near where they want it to .

Joey scouts in 2 teams , 1/2 of each team at opposite ends of the hall facing each other . On a signal the first Joey jumps into their sack and hops up to their team mates passing the sack to the next Joey , this is repeated until all Joeys have had a turn .

note : Great for developing team spirit , name each team something to do with roos and encourage the Joey Scouts to cheer on their team mate and assist the next Joey Scout in line to hop into their sack , some children have difficulty coordinating they may prefer to shuffle/run than to hop , but should be encourged to try hopping first . If children become embarrassed hop into a sack yourself and be a little less than coordinated , if they see you floundering yet still having fun and trying they will be more confident to continue .

Lay out sticks like the rungs on a ladder , they do not need to be spaced evenly . Have all your Joey Scouts line up with a space of a few metres between the beginning of the line and the first stick . Taking it in turns (one Joey can start as the previous Joey is near the finish) each Scout needs to bound between the sticks without touching them , as the last Joey Bounds through , take one stick and reposition it so the gaps are now a different width . Scouts enjoy seeing their leaders participating and love to be able to try to make things difficult for you let them move the sticks sometimes

note : wonderful for coordination , perception , and a means to burn energy . FUN GAME !

equipment ...... blindfolds ( we use our Scout scarfs , being black they make ideal blindfolds)

Have 3 or 4 Joey Scouts being Dingos ( Australian Native Dog ) , While the rest of the Mob are Kangaroos . All Kangaroos are blindfolded and must hop about the room as quietly as possible . All Dingos must crawl . The object is for the Dingos to tag the Roos and the Roos to stretch their senses to locate the hunting Dingos . A Kanga will try to hear the Dingos and point to the place they think a Dingo is lurking . Dingos try to sneak up quietly to tag a Kanga . If either Kanga or Dingo is successful they trade places .

note : The first time we played this game it was not successful , the Joey Scouts found it very hard to stretch their senses and more importantly to be quiet . I think this was only because of their energy levels on the night . A couple of weeks later we ran this game again and the 2nd time we played it , they enjoyed the game .

Divide Mob into two , one half have tails tucked into their clothes and the other half are without . On a signal the Joeys need to hop around the hall trying to either catch a tail or avoid their tail being caught . When a tail is successfully tagged the Joey pair go to a leader and the roles are reversed.

note: Good steam off game be sure to watch if some Joeys are not having an opportunity to switch roles .
